Comic Book Boom! Origins #4

Comic Book Boom! Cyber Bike

What does it take to sell a comic book in the early '90s when it seems like every issue on the shelf has a foil cover? As the market boomed, publishers turned to more and more outlandish cover enhancements: Glow-in-the-dark ink, lenticular motion – even gluing on a plastic jewel!

In Comic Book Boom!, hype helps you build up your readership, but you'll need to use enhancement cards to drive up the collectibility of individual issues if you want to make the big bucks.

Comic Book Boom! Enhancement cards

The profit you earn from each book that you publish is its readership × collectibility. That means every blue diamond that you can add to a book drives its value up fast.

Enhancement cards often have hoops that you'll need to jump through to get the most impact. Some enhancements, like Foil Cover, need a little bit of hype to be effective. Others, like Gatefold Cover, are only at their best when they're added onto specific books.

The story doesn't end there, dear readers! But, before we continue, we're going to need to take a field trip.

Winning origin story

Motorcycle mechanic Whitney Wheeler thought she'd worked on every kind of bike – until she encountered FF34-8. Bonding with the alien technology, she was reborn as Cyber Bike, the velocitized vigilante who's tuning up the streets.

Help tell the next chapter of our origin story
