Comic Book Boom! Origins #3
If you're a comic book publisher in 1992, what do you do with your stable of beloved characters?
Give them an edgy, new attitude and an extreme makeover, of course!
In Comic Book Boom!, a big part of your job as the publisher is to hype up your books using stunt cards – outrageous plot devices that you use to grab attention.
Hype makes the books' themes travel up the shared market board. As those themes climb, your books attract higher and higher readership – creating a bigger audience for you to sell to.
Some stunts, like Guest Starring..., are a quick way to add a little hype to a book. Bigger stunts, like The Death of..., will give your book a major hype boost, but can get trickier and trickier to play as the game goes on.
A marketing stunt is great for getting headlines, dear readers, but to continue our tale and get collectors to buy comics by the crate, we're going to need some eye-popping enhanced covers.
Congrats to this round's winner, Hayden I., and thanks to everyone who helped pick an origin story for the game character Maximus Baditude!
Winning origin story
After tagging the wrong warehouse, graffiti artist Max Denys was doused in an experimental chemical while trying to escape a squad of corporate security goons. Gaining the power to turn graffiti into living energy constructs, he became Maximus Baditude, defender of the streets.
Help tell the next chapter of our origin story
Lucky gadabouts who help us create origin stories could win even more vintage '90s comics from the Gadabout Gada-Vault.
