Turf War 2nd Edition base set changes
Along with the Turf War: Trick-or-Treat expansion, we’ll be releasing a revised, 2nd edition of the Turf War base set.
In the Turf War 2nd Edition base set, some cards are removed and some card quantities have changed. No new cards were added, and a 2nd Edition base set can be constructed from two copies of the original Turf War.
The 2nd Edition Store Deck has been reduced in size. We found that the most aggressive attack cards (Catapult, Crowbar, Stealth Drone, and Flea Circus) in the 1st Edition were warping the game around them, requiring more copies of cards to help players recover from the attack (e.g., extra Watering Cans) and to prevent the strong attack cars from coming up as frequently. With additional feedback from players, we made the call to remove or reduce the number of those strong attack cards, and cut copies of cards that were only present in the Store Deck to help recover from those attacks. Flea Circus does remain in the set, but goes down to a single copy to prevent players from assembling the hard-to-remove Flea Circus engine.
We focused on re-balancing the remaining card mix to support up to 4 players. With fewer copies of cards like Stacking Stones, you’ll now see a greater variety of cards over the course of a game and stand a better chance of swaying Neighbors in the more resource-competitive multiplayer games.
Lastly, we removed the Kickstarter extra blank cards from the 2nd Edition in order to help free up space for two additional sets of starting cards (Home/Away, Grass/Dirt, etc.)
The full Turf War 2nd Edition base set card list is up now.
While there are no major rules changes in the 2nd Edition, there are a handful of rules changes to help make some aspects of the game more intuitive:
Play Tools directly to your Garage. (Previously, Tools were played to your Yard and then picked up and moved to your Garage as part of a cleanup step.)
It’s now optional to put cards facedown in your Garage. Your rivals are still not allowed to look through your Garage (unless a card specifically instructs them to.)
Events are now placed onto the bottom of the Store Deck after being completed (unless the Event specifically instructs you to do otherwise.)
Multiplayer rules have been incorporated into the main rules.
The Turf War 2nd Edition base set rules are up now, and we’ve created a new video explaining the game, linked below.
The Turf War 2nd Edition base set will be produced as part of the Turf War: Trick-or-Treat hits Kickstarter, launching on September 27.
